Pokey is now available for adoption
3 yr old, intact male, Great Pyrenees who was previously used to guard livestock. Shy with people at first, but warms up quickly. Seems to be good with other dogs and people. Unsure on cats as we have no way to test for that. Will need access to either a well contained farm or fenced in yard. Great Pyrenees are very large (100lbs and up) working breed. They are used to guard livestock from predators. Chronic escape artists, they need secure boundaries and a job. Pyrenees can, in some situations make great family pets if the owner is understanding of the breed’s needs and characteristics.
Update! Foster Home Found!
We are looking for a suitable foster home for our sweet Pokey while he undergoes Heartworm Treatment.
Pokey is a 3yr old, male, Great Pyrenees who came from a rough situation. Unfortunately, Pokey was recently diagnosed with heartworm disease and will need treatment in order to save his life. Treating heartworm disease is not easy on these poor babies, it is a few month process that requires a lot of TLC.
Pokey would need a quiet atmosphere, multiple trips to the Vet and restricted activity during his treatment at a minimum. Unfortunately, a pound environment is not the ideal location for this. We are asking for someone who has the ability to commit themselves and their home over the next couple months, to help us save this sweet boy's life and we can then re-post him as available for adoption in hopes he can finally get the wonderful life he deserves!
