The Main Cities Of This Region Are:

Hartford feels like a real city in the middle of Connecticut, with a much more urban pace and character than the surrounding towns. It’s where you’ll find government, major employers, cultural institutions, restaurants, historic neighborhoods, sports and entertainment, and people coming and going throughout the day.

Hartford can feel energetic and busy in some areas and quieter in others, with a strong sense of history alongside its modern downtown.

It’s the region’s urban center, the state capital, and the place to experience Connecticut at its most city like without being in a major metropolitan area.

West Hartford feels like a comfortable, lively town that blends suburban living with a surprisingly active village atmosphere.

The center of town, particularly around West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square, is filled with restaurants, cafés, shops, and people out walking, meeting friends, and spending time outside. Away from the center, it becomes quieter and more residential, with established neighborhoods, parks, and tree lined streets.

It feels polished and social without feeling overly urban, a place where people tend to linger rather than simply pass through.
