How To Use The Directory
The directory showcases adoptable dogs in Connecticut Municipal Shelters
The dogs listed on the SSLH website are dogs available for adoption in CT municipal shelters, or dogs who were in a CT municipal shelter and were pulled into a supportive rescue but are still in a shelter setting.
Choose “Shelter Dogs By Town" to see dogs in each town, ordered alphabetically
Red frames are dogs who have been waiting 6+ months, are aged 8 years +, or have special needs
The month and year above the photo is when they became available for adoption
Click on the dog’s photo to be redirected to their full profile
Inside the Expanded Profile
Click on the town animal control text to see their contact card
On a mobile device, click the phone number to call them
Embedded videos will play right inside the profile
Facebook posts will bring you to the Facebook page of the shelter
Choose “Expanded Dog Profiles from the drop down menu to search by features
The total number of dogs in the directory is shown at the top
The newest dogs are always shown first
Dog Friendly means the dog appears to be welcoming to other dogs. A meet and greet is generally required
Dog Selective means the dog has shown signs of liking some dogs and disliking others. A meet and greet is generally required
Dogs Unknown simply means the shelter has no way of knowing how the dog is with other dogs. A meet and greet can help determine if it’s a good fit
Dogs listed as spayed or neutered may already be fixed, or the shelter may have them altered before the dog can go home
Do not overlook dogs with very little info on their profile. It’s not their fault!
We only list information provided directly by a representative of the shelter. The only exception is if a dog appears to be a bully breed, but the shelter has not designated their breed, we will tag the dog as a bully breed .
While we personally love the bullies, not everyone does, and we want people to have a way to view the type of dog they are most likely to adopt.
We never meet or interact with these dogs so all questions and adoptions go through the shelter directly.
The directory is updated every day however that does not mean that all the information is up to date. We rely on outside sources for updates and there may be a delay. Always contact the shelter directly.
